Grappenhall

The traditional village of Grappenhall provides a peaceful location for a spot of history and a nice lunch in one of the many warm and friendly village pubs.

St Wilfreds, an ancient Norman church, cobblestone streets and the village stocks add to its unique attractiveness. If you look carefully you may even spot the original Cheshire Cat on the church tower! The village has a very long history and is first recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086.

In 1933 the civil parish boundary was latered to follow the centre of the Manchester Ship Canal and was extended in 1936 to include Thelwall.
.

The meaning of Grappenhall simply serves to remind all that enjoy the romantic prospect of such a village, that the essential elements of life connected with food and shelter must come before beauty and romance.
