Once a parish of Old Bucklow Hundred, the township of Lymm is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.
Lymm possess great natural beauty and contains attractive features of considerable antiquity. Some writers claim that its features are unique and certainly the name of Lymm itself appears to be undisputedly unique. Lymm means situated on a steam - of which it is.
